Adam was a five-act play, or probably more correctly a five-scene play, which I wrote while I had a severe ear infection after returning from touring the west coast with my band. I couldn't hear very well, so going outside was frightening and disorienting - so I ended up staying home and writing a lot on my roommate/bandmate's old Brother word processor. There were other results, like "Pants", but Adam was definitely the best of the lot.

It's an experimental structure - the play starts from ANY of the five "acts", and then continues on for four more. In order to read (or watch) it, pick an act, read it, and continue until you reach the point you came in. It is a better play if you read from some acts than others, but it should remain relatively internally coherent regardless of where you start.

I have curated your experience by selecting "Act Human" as the first act.

There is only one setting in the play:

Bob and Laura Casper's living room. There is an open doorway to the kitchen stage left, and a door to the outside stage right. The furniture consists of a couch center stage, one armchair to the left and another to the right of it, and a chest in the center used as a table. On the chest is an ashtray.
